The Gold Coast has long been home to theme parks, golden surfing beaches, and flourishing nightlife. Now, with the arrival of various fine dining restaurants, craft breweries and wine bars perched along the coastline, the country’s holiday capital is fast becoming a gourmand’s paradise, too.
Within The Langham’s beachfront location, the space itself blends modern luxury with traditional elements in an 80-seater indoor restaurant. It features high-end furnishings and contemporary design accented with bespoke abstract art pieces by Australian-Chinese artist, Lindy Lee. As a backdrop to the traditional cuisine, the tasteful interiors pay tribute to the Tang Dynasty, China’s golden age.
Much like its fellow T’ang Court restaurants around the globe, the Australian-first venue embraces the essence of the Southern Chinese region by stacking Cantonese flavours on the menu. Expect seasonal delicacies and local produce to be heroed in a choice of three set menus and a range of a la carte dishes — offered alongside a bespoke wine list.
The specialities include a three-part ode to the traditional Cantonese duck. Savour duck pancake with chef’s special hoi sin sauce, before moving onto duck bun with lychee and raspberry sauce (and supplemental caviar), and sliced duck breast and leg accompanied with plum sauce — a simple yet delicious centuries-old Asian delicacy. There’s also sauteed pearl meat with ginger, shallot, and Asian greens to look forward to, and locally sourced fresh seafood, such as the spicy black tiger prawn with roasted garlic.
“Our first Australian T’ang Court restaurant marks a significant leap forward for the local dining landscape. Authentic, traditional Cantonese fine dining is comparatively rare in Australia, so we’re thrilled to bring this unique experience to life for locals and travellers, from other states and even internationally,” Lam says.
The restaurant will be open four days, serving lunch from 12.00pm – 3.00pm Friday – Sunday and dinner from 5.30pm – 11.00pm, on Thursday to Sunday each week. It is located on level three of The Langham, Gold Coast hotel with on-site parking available for diners.
