Dear Students, Thank you for hanging in there! Thank you for all your emails, questions, DM’s and awesome posts. Thank you, Angelenos, for STAYING HOME, saving lives, being wonderful and kind, supportive and strong. We cannot wait to see you again.
In keeping with the spirit of staying put and feeding our hearts and bellies, we reached out to a few folks in our food community to compile a list of resources to do just that.
Here’s what is true:
- We need groceries
- We want to support small businesses
- We want to stay healthy
- We need to stay home
We hope this list helps you find quality food and drink resources in Los Angeles.
Please do reach out if you have any updates or if we left anyone out!
RESTAURANTS & EATERIES OFFERING PRODUCE AND PANTRY FOR DELIVERY AND/OR PICKUP
Let’s give a giant air-high-five to those restaurants that had the bandwidth to redefine themselves as bodegas, and, (I can’t believe I am saying this), to the L.A. County Health Department for creating a system to fast-track a new way of doing business, while keeping our health and safety their top priority. Let’s also give a big air hug to those who chose to close, for whatever reason – let’s remember them when commune once again.
Ordering produce and meal-kit boxes from independent businesses will keep our neighbors employed and our spending recirculating within our communities. Many of your favorite food businesses have pivoted to new models, not to profit but to keep their doors open, and in many cases, to keep their furloughed employees’ benefits in-tack.
The following lists the businesses in and around Los Angeles that offer meal-kits, food, groceries and drink delivery or pick-up. This list is ever-growing, ever-shrinking and ever-changing. Be patient, be kind and be flexible. If you can, order off their menu as much as you are ordering staples and return to their restaurant when they re-open (Yang’s Kitchen, I will be back)!!

WHOLESALERS OFFERING GROCERY DELIVERY
These large and small wholesale companies have been the lifeblood of restaurants in our communities. They deliver staples like butter and eggs and often facilitate the purchase of produce from farmers’ markets to your favorite sit-down eatery. With sales to restaurants flatlining, these companies have switched to aggregating their stock, ready for pickup at their warehouses (yes, you can get to Vernon in 20 minutes these days) or use a delivery service. Be patient with their websites- they’re designed for restaurants and are working hard to make them consumer-facing-friendly as quickly as they can.

FOOD PANTRIES
We’ve all needed help at one point or another and during this time, and help is what many need. This unprecedented time has truly brought out the best in all our local food systems. Below are just a few of the many options that individuals and families have to gain access to free produce and staples. These businesses are run by local organizations that glean from farmers’ markets, distributors and donations.
Please remember that all Certified Farmers’ Markets have the ability to accept SNAP benefits and that many offer the Market Match program which can double you spending power at area markets. Please visit SEE-LA to learn more about some of their markets and others. If access is an issue, please know that Santa Monica’s Big Blue Buses are running (limited) free of charge and that though they are running on average about 20% slower, the metro trains and buses are still in operation. If you are in a position to donate, we have also worked with the following organizations:

Food Forward Produce Pickups (this is our favorite non-profit partner)
